My Doodle Buddy! /6:19 AM
Yay and yayness! Bubbles and joy!
Yesterday, Luke came!
I wasn't expecting him to come so soon, and I was actually designing a shirt for him. So when I saw the package I was like:
Noooooo! Wait! I haven't made him clothes! Then I'll really have to make him wear a bath towel while I sew them! But either way, since I had waited so long for him, I closed up all the curtains and opened up the box. I had so much trouble with the box, and ended up cutting my fingers with the scissors in my attempt to open it. So painful! >.< But in the end, I managed to open it...
Then my sister stepped in.
Tabby: He looks mummified.
-stares at the huge amount of bubble wrap used to wrap Luke-
Me:...
Haha. Well, at least we didn't see him naked.
But even if he was, it was really magical to open up the bubble wrap. I started from the head of course. The first thing I probably noticed was that he was bald. ^o^ (That's because the wig was in a seperate container) Then I saw that his eyes were blue. Bright beautiful glassy blue, I think you could call it sterling blue(?), like the sky when its sunny. Apparently they select the eye colour for you so you don't get to chose, and I was fearing they'd give him some weird colour like green or red. But they gave him blue, such a beautiful blue too! XD
Just so if you people want to know, he's quite tall, 70cm in height. And he's kinda hard and heavy. I bet if I swung him hard enough at someone's head I could very well knock that person out. XD His skin is fair, fairer than mine and he's got a boyish features. And his joints, I love his range of movement. He poses very well and can stand on his own. His clavicle outline is so well defined I can actually imgaine he has a skeleton underneath.
Ohoh. I put on the wig next. For one, it's black and also it's one of those wigs that styles without mousse and its very fun to play with. I love styling his hair, so soft and malleable (if you could describe hair that way).
Then I noticed that he had been given a set of clothing...
A set of clothes, apparently that I didn't order.
At first I thought it was a mistake, and perhaps they had sent me the wrong parcel. Then I was worried that I would have to send the clothes back. Then I thought again, how nice it would be if I just put them on for him, since he hadn't any clothes. So first I dressed him. They had sent a full set of clothes (shoes aren't included) and a jacket which even by spending another $100 for a set of clothing wouldn't buy. (Putting on his clothes was really hard since I was doing my best not to look at his erm, lower half, and I managed quite sucessfully -_-".)
Then I picked up the delivery slip which read:
Set 50, free gift.I took a look at Luke. Yep, he looked very beautiful in those clothes. Then I started wondering why the company was so nice as to give me a set of clothes which would have earned them about another US$65 for free, including the jacket which was actually not for sale.
Two people had said to me: You were expecting him to come naked???
Actually I was... in fact, to be given that jacket...
At first I thought that maybe the company was being nice, since it was my first time purchasing from them I ought to get a little bonus. Then I thought about my previous post, and about how dolls are made. I also remembered an article on how some dollmakers refused to sell their dolls to some people who wouldn't love them and later sell them off. (If you still have no clue up till now, Luke is a doll.)
I began to imgaine how perhaps the dollmaker looked at Luke while wrapping him up in bubble wrap and said: "You know the guy who ordered you is a fifty year old doctor and he ordered you without clothes. Who knows if he can sew a decent outfit for you. Or maybe he's going to give you away to one of his disgusting little kids who's going to play with you for a few days then throw you aside. Or you might end up in some collectors cupboard and never be played with. Or perhaps he might even sell you off at a profit after customizing you some more."
"To him $900 probably isn't a big deal, but you're a big deal to me since I made you. But because he's already ordered you, you have to go. So you know what, at the very least I'll give you this set of clothes before we ship you off. They aren't for the customer, they're for you, so he won't have to pay a single cent. And I think I'll give you this jacket too. You better be grateful because I don't sell it to paying customers. I'm hoping very hard that wherever you go, and whoever gets you will treat you well."
Haha, at least, if were in the dollmaker's place I would have said that XD. I'm really really really so glad they gave him clothes. Tomorrow I'm going to sew another set for him.
And you know what? I've been thinking, it isn't the money I paid that gives Luke value. Nor is it the two months of savanging for lunch, or the scrimping and saving I did. It doesn't even lie in the reason why I bought him, to use him as a model to draw and design clothes on.
I guess his value lies in the fact that somebody bothered to put four/five weeks of effort into making him, carefully preparing him and sending him off with something to wear though he should have gone without it. After all, that was the reason why I was so attracted to dolls in the first place ^o^, to the photo of the old man working at an ugly unfinished doll in his lap. And the fact that he is modelled after a human really reminds me of the special relation that a creator shares with his creation.
I'll really do my best to take care of him. -Squeals- He's such a wonderful doodle buddy! XD Yes, and if you want to meet him, I think he'll be glad to meet you.
Yay and yayness! Bubbles and joy!
